Shoalhaven to Currarong
The Shoalhaven Heads Region begins at Seven Mile Beach, just south of Gerroa, and extends to North Durras just North of Batemans Bay. From the northern border of the Shoalhaven to the entrance of Jervis Bay you can discover 80 stunning beaches! Dotted around these beaches are holiday cottagesthat retain the classic Australian sun and surf feel. The Regional name Shoalhaven was given by explorer George Bass in 1797 to describe the sandy shoals (or shoals haven) at the mouth of the river. In 1822 settlement began in earnest when Alexander Berry was granted land on the Shoalhaven River.
Seven Mile Beach: A superb beach,wide and long, bordered by Seven mile Beach National Park. Comerong Island: The Soutern extenson of Seven Mile Beach, broken by the silted up entrance to the Shoalhaven River Accessible only by car ferry. The island is mostly an nature reserve with limited facilities. Culburra Beach: A 3 kilomtere long beach bordering Culburra. Crookhaven Heads Tourist Park is found on the Norhtern end of of the beach and Tilbury Cove on the southern. Warrain Beach: A 4 kilometre beach running from South Culburra Beach to Currarong beach bordered by Lake Wollumboola and Jervis Bay National Park. Currarong Beach: Excellent surfing and good fishing. Rock pools, parks and amenities. Abraham's Bosom: A small North facing family beach at Currarong leading to Abraham's Bosom Reserve. Walking tracks and good amenities. Wilsons Beach: Found in the Abraham's Bosom Reserve near the wreck of the HMAS Merimbula. A secluded, private north facing beach with no amenities. Lobster Bay: A small secluded beach with no amenities. Reached by a 15 minute walk through Abraham's Bosom Reserve Abrahams Bosom: A small, north facing, protected family beach at Currarong that leads into the Abrahams Bosom Reserve. Good amenities and walking trials nearby.
