Gordon's Bay Sydney

Untitled Document

Gordons Bay Sydney

A unique and protected aquatic reserve, Gordons Bay is one of Sydney ’s most popular dive spots. Offering Sydney ’s only underwater nature trail, the secluded bay is accessed via the coastal walk, located south of Clovelly Beach and north from Coogee Beach .

Parking is available at Clovelly Beach .

Stroll down the path into the deep gully where raised boardwalks protect the native fauna and a small wetland area that is fed by a natural spring . Stop at the beach for a paddle and enjoy the charm of this coastal location. The pocket-sized beach is lined with racks of boats from the local fishing club, reminiscent of a European fishing village .

Secluded and quiet, the bay is abundant in native flora. Varieties of wattle, banksias, lily, coast tea tree, lobelia, sassafras, bracken and bracken fern are just a few of the species surrounding the bay. The dense vegetation provides a haven for many small birds and lizards. Volunteer community groups work to eliminate non-native plants in this and other coastal strips along The Sports Coast

Diving:

Protected by an offshore reef, the bay is a safe location to explore the beauty of this unique undersea world. View the magnificent marine life from above, snorkelling through the cool waters searching for life such as sponges, star fish, sea urchins, cuttlefish, anemones and the blue groper.

A popular dive spot, the calm waters hide a unique underwater nature trail. With good visibility the trail marked by a series of chains, is approximately 700m in length and reaches to a depth of some 14m. Spotted goatfish, garfish and baby sharks are just a few of the species that you can swim with in this protected aquatic reserve.

Pro Dive (9665 6333,) Alfreda Street Coogee, offers snorkelling and diving packages and can help with all diving needs.

The reef that protects this bay also provides it with some excellent surfing. Known as the Bombie, the reef produces both left and right hand waves, recommended for experienced surfers only.
